John 13:3-9
3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” 8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”
Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”
9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!”
He now showed the disciples the full extent of His love –
He knew His authority – He had come from and would return to the Father, so He got up took off His robe – wrapped a towel around His waist and began to wash the disciples feet – Peter said to Jesus that He would never wash his feet and Jesus responded – if I don’t wash you, you don’t BELONG to me!
Jesus was secure in His identity and purpose –
To love the Father – to obey Him – as His Son
He walked and lived in Holy Love and Devotion to His Father
His Authority came from Obedience
HE could be the Servant of all
He walked and lived in the Philippians 2 Posture
For authority is founded on LOVE’S SECURITY
He washed with a towel wrapped around His Waist
I wash you now and I will wash you again and again and again
With My Word and My Blood
I AM THE WORD that washes now and forever
Here in front of the 12 and then from within and from Above
I will be in you and you in ME – in heavenly places
Perfect liberty IS THIS LOVE
To be who you were created to be
Confidence – no more fear of man or his thoughts or responses
He confidently and humbly arises from the table and wraps His Spirit with the sign of true apostleship – SERVANTHOOD
Only secure leaders wash feet
Only ones who sit at His Feet can wash feet
Posture of holy adoration of Him
Imparts into us His mantle of humility to love and serve as He did
THE FULL EXTENT OF HIS LOVE
It was not casting out demons or healing
Though that is the expression of His compassion, mercy and love
It was THIS ACT – DIVINE ETERNAL ACT
This Lamb – This Lion
Not bleating, not roaring
Quietly washing
Imparting His Example to follow and do
And that THIS is the path of blessing
To DO the thing you know to do
Man no longer stopping you
Fear no longer stopping you
Insecurity no longer stopping you
Feeling unloved, I don’t fit, jealousy, the past, the future, what if’s, gazes, thoughts, opinions, criticisms, gossip, slander having no impact….
HOLY LOVE’S RELEASE
Wash His Feet with your tears of Holy Love
And be washed and adorned as His Own
‘you won’t belong to Me’……..unless I wash your feet…….
Wash away King Jesus – all of me
Head to toe – within and without
With Holy Love- Holy Fire
You are the Holy Water Washing
Not something in a bottle
In a bottle in Heaven are tears of our poured out hearts
That You treasure
Our gift to You
Our very self – our very being
Pushing aside every glance, every snicker
Who cares – in the pew or the world
IF we belong to YOU
Sealed – secure- YOURS
What else matters!
