“The Hands of God”
A Father: Who imparts His own Spirit; to His children.
God lives in us by His Spirit. This is the means by which Godliness is formed in us, the means by which we fellowship with God, and the means by which God chooses to reach out to touch others through us.
As amazing as it appears to be; God chooses to reveal Himself, and to continue the Ministry of Jesus on earth; through us.
** To be this revelation of God on earth; we need more than simple knowledge about God. We need the power of the Holy Spirit, and the gifts of the Spirit flowing in our lives: just as the man Jesus did!
Spiritual gifts are simply supernatural abilities given by the Holy Spirit; that are meant to function in our lives under His direction and anointing: The purpose of these gifts and anointing are to reveal God as Father to this world, and Jesus, God’s Son, as the Savior and the Way to the Father. Secondly; these gifts are to enable us to build the Kingdom of God on earth; the way it is in heaven: by doing the works that Jesus did here on earth.
In other words: spiritual gifts are not rewards for good behavior, nor are they special blessings for our personal benefit! (1st Corinthians 12:1-11, 27-31) (Romans 12:1-8)
(Ephesians 4:1-16) (1st Corinthians 14:1-5, 26-33, 39-40)
Overview of spiritual gifts:
** Read through the lists of spiritual gifts; and comment on how they function; as well as how to recognize individual gifts.
(1st Corinthians 12:8-10, 28) (Romans 12:6-8)
Question: What about Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers?
(Ephesians 4:11-16) These individuals are neither “Gifts of the Spirit”; nor are they superior individuals to the rest of the Body.
Jesus Himself; as the Head of the Body; chooses, and appoints people to specific functions within the Church.
These are divine appointments; with divine authority; to build up and train the whole Body to minister in Love, and Power.
They are not appointed positions in the church hierarchy of delegated authority; but rather in the truest sense: these individuals are a gift from Jesus; to His Bride: to help prepare her for her wedding day!
These individuals also need the gifts and anointing of Holy Spirit to fulfill their destiny!
** One cannot choose the five fold ministry, nor can one earn the position; or train for it in a bible college! For the five fold ministry is neither a position nor a title; but rather a calling given by Christ Himself!
For example: graduating from bible college does not make you a pastor; and not attending bible college, or not even having an education; cannot keep you from being a Pastor or Prophet: If Jesus calls you to that function!
However; we should all take Paul’s advice to Timothy in his letters
(2nd Timothy 2:15) (2nd Timothy 3:16-17); and continually seek to grow in our character, and our ability to administer the gifts that God has given us. For some of us; that may mean going to Bible College or a ministry school etc.
** Founding churches does not make you an Apostle!
** Prophesying does not make you a Prophet!
** Preaching does not make you an Evangelist!
** Teaching does not make you a Teacher!
** Caring for people does not make you a Pastor!
These individuals are recognized by the fruit of their lives; and by the God given authority to equip the whole Body of Christ: first of all by reproducing the character of Christ in people; secondly by reproducing the works of Christ in people!
Example: Having a prophetic ministry does not mean that you are a prophet! It simply means that the main focus of your passion and energy in ministry; are given to prophecy.
Question: You said that we all can prophecy; what do you mean?
Answer: The Holy Spirit can anoint any believer, at any time: to prophecy, heal the sick, cast out a demon, preach etc.
Question: Why does scripture say: “Prophecy; is the greatest gift; To especially desire the gift of prophecy, He who prophecies; is greater than the one who speaks in tongues; unless he interprets”?
Answer: These statements are not in reference to the importance of the individuals prophesying, or to the value of the gifts themselves: rather; it is referring to the impact that true prophecy can have on the life of an individual or even a Nation; in revealing the heart of God, and bringing forth life!
Prophecy, Words of knowledge, Words of wisdom, and tongues with interpretation; are all prophetic gifts that can release such life, hope, and direction into a person’s life: that in a moment; their lives can change forever! (This is especially true; when the gifts are used with Love and Wisdom)!
To be prophetic; is simply to have eyes to see and ears to hear what God is saying and doing: IE what is in His heart.
For this reason: every believer is called to be prophetic by nature!
The whole Church is called to be a prophetic voice to the world, and a prophetic picture of the heart of God to the lost!
** Undeniably; every Christian is called to exercise spiritual gifts, and to live our lives; in a way that prophetically reveals the Kingdom of God to the world around us!
** Prophecy is not about dates and events; although it includes such things.
** Personal prophecy is always contingent upon on our response!
** True prophecy is always about communicating the heart, and the voice of God to His creation; in a way that brings our hearts into line with His heart and will.
Therefore, true prophecy brings hope, encouragement, direction, responsibility, reconciliation, restoration, repentance, and life!
** Prophecy that’s speaks of pending judgment is also conditional to repentance: because our Father is a God of mercy!
** We are called to know God as He truly is, and; to reveal Him to the world as He truly is!
Therefore; we are called to be prophetic in nature: even if we do not have a prophetic gift!
(Revelations 19:9-10) reveals the heart of true prophecy.
** The testimony that Jesus gave; was all about the heart of our Father. Father’s unconditional love; and His burning desire to have His children return home to Him, and live in His house forever.
To testify about Jesus; is to reveal the heart, words, and actions of Jesus on earth: once again; He always testified of our Father!
Spiritual gifts are not rewards for behavior; nor are they indications of deep spirituality. They are spiritual abilities; given by Holy Spirit; as He chooses.
The five fold ministries are not super gifts; but rather; appointed functions within the Body of Christ: for her equipping, and maturing.
Prophecy and prophetic gifts; are most desirable among the gifts of the Spirit; because of the life and revelation of God’s heart that they bring!
Every believer is called, and privileged to be prophetic in our relationship to the world; to the extent that we share the heart of God: irregardless of the gifts that we function in!
We deeply need God, and we deeply need each other; along with the gifts that God has placed within us! (1st Corinthians 12:12-26).
Father; I long to know you better; and to be able to minister life the way that Jesus did!
I eagerly desire spiritual gifts; especially those that reveal your heart and speak your voice.
I trust you to give me the gifts that will bring me joy, and empower me in my destiny.
But most of all: I want you! Amen.
