Godliness With Contentment

by Daniel Garvin

1 Timothy 6:6 “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Practically everything we are exposed to in the media, and even somewhat in the church today is motivated by fear.  TV ads tell us the worst about our heart, our potential physical problems, or future disasters.  The solution is to buy their product, pill or financial plan to alleviate our fears.  The news is fear motivated in order to keep our attention focused on their station and ads.

2Timothy 1:7  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self control.”

As we abide in intimacy with the Father, and receive His arms of love, then we as a nursing babe can experience peaceful contentment and protection, by a loving Father.

“Loved with everlasting love, led by grace that love to know, Spirit breathing from above, thou hast taught me it is so. Oh this full and perfect peace! Oh this transport all divine! In a love which cannot cease, I am His and He is mine.

Things that once were wild alarms, cannot now disturb my rest; Closed in everlasting arms, pillowed on the loving breast: Oh to lie forever here! Doubt and care and self resign, while He whispers in my ear – I am His and He is mine.”

1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”

I would estimate that 80% of movies and TV shows are dramas that induce fear and suspense.  Added to this are programs that have satanic themes with the presence of evil and dark powers. Even cartoons teach curses and trances, and how to induce spells. Harry Potter who is a favorite of church folks, is basic witchcraft 101.  It’s no wonder that crime, suicide, and mass murder is on the rise. People are finding no hope for the future.

What a contrast to believers who walk in the light, and live a life of peace, with godliness and contentment, and a future hope! We walk on a different pathway as citizens who pledge allegiance to the kingdom of Yahweh. We are seated with Him in the heavenlies, and live surrounded by love, in the open heavens, and in the supernatural realm.

Peace perfect peace, the future all unknown, Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.
